About Wonderwood Montessori

For over a decade, the vision for Wonderwood Montessori School has been growing in the heart of Cairns. Our school has been created to provide authentic Montessori education for children aged 2 to 12 in an environment that nurtures curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.

At Wonderwood, we believe education should honour the whole child. That means supporting intellectual growth, creativity, social and emotional development, physical movement, and a strong sense of belonging within community.

Our Montessori approach is grounded in the work of Dr Maria Montessori and supported by modern research. Children learn through hands-on materials, real experiences, and carefully prepared environments that allow them to explore concepts deeply and meaningfully.

We also recognise and respect our connection to Country and community, creating a school culture that values inclusion, care, and responsibility for the world around us.

Our Learning Communities

Each learning community at Wonderwood Montessori School is designed around the child’s developmental stage. Through mixed-age classrooms, hands-on learning, and child-led discovery, children build independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

3-6 years

Cycle 1

Between the ages of 3 and 6, children build the foundations of independence, concentration, and self-confidence. In Cycle 1, children learn best through hands-on activities, open-ended exploration, and meaningful real-life experiences.

The Montessori environment supports children as they refine movement, sensory perception, language, early mathematics, and social skills, all while learning at their own pace.
